Gameforge to sponsor AppArtAward

Gameforge will be sponsoring the AppArtAward in the Game Art category of the ZKM | Centre for Art and Media Technology (Zentrum für Kunst und Medientechnologie) Karlsruhe. After its successful launch last year, the internationally renowned research and exhibition institute will be awarding the international prize for artworks in app format for a second time on the 13th of July 2012. The award in the category Game Art rewards innovative, critical or subversive computer game applications for smartphones and tablet-PCs, made by independent developers who use the medium for artistic expression.

The Special Prize for Game Art, valued at 10,000 euros, will be sponsored by Gameforge, one of the world’s leading online game providers. With its commitment to the cause, the publisher, based in Karlsruhe, is contributing to the creative, cultural and economical potential of mobile games. As a member of the panel of renowned judges chaired by ZKM board member Peter Weibel, Gameforge Product Director Andre Potgeber will be taking an active part in the review and evaluation of the submitted entries.

“By sponsoring the Game Art category of the ZKM AppArtAward we aim to support and promote independent developers of creative gaming apps”, said Alexander Rösner, CEO of Gameforge, regarding the company’s involvement.

The ZKM’s call for entries is aimed at participants from all over the world. Developers interested in applying can send their submissions to the ZKM from the 12th of March 2012. The deadline for entries is the 11th of May 2012. Alongside the Prize for Game Art, the AppArtAward will be awarding prizes in two other new categories with respect to current developments within new media. The Prize for Artistic Innovation encompasses all innovative app developments that take advantage of the artistic freedom of the medium. The Special Prize for Cloud Art addresses all developers that implement the possibilities of cloud computing technology in a creative and artistic manner. Aion goes free-to-play on the 28th of February

The waiting time is finally coming to an end: AION goes free-to-play on the 28th of February! The monthly subscription fees will become a thing of the past and your adventures as a Daeva will not cost you a penny anymore!

Download the new client now to charge into Atreia immediately on the 28th of February. Get it now by visiting our download section or following this link.

The free-to-play switch-over is an important milestone in AION'S history and we're already preparing for the next one: in spring 2012, AION Europe will receive the update 3.0. Get ready for the new housing system, mounts and lots more!

You are an AION player and have prepaid subscription fees that continue past 27th of February? If so, we will transfer your remaining game days into premium currency as compensation.

For every day paid for in advance, you will receive six AION Coins in your account. If, for example, you paid your subscription up to the 3rd of March, you have five remaining game days. This means you will receive 30 AION Coins, which you can spend to your heart's content in our new shop.

So that we can give you your AION Coins, please give us permission to transfer your current account to the Gameforge servers by the 27th of February at 3 pm (GMT +1). To do so, log into your NCsoft master account and follow the instructions. We'll take care of the rest!

Your AION Coins will be credited to your game account when the account is moved and will be available to you once you log in to the free-to-play version for the first time. Players with a transferred NC account will also receive Veteran status with enhanced functions. Find out more info here.

Aion is going free-to-play

Gameforge, Europe's leading provider of online games, and NCsoft®, the world’s premier publisher and developer of massively multiplayer online games, today announced a new and free to play business model for Aion, the online role-playing game.

From February 2012, players will be able to download the full version of the game for free and play without any subscription costs. Aion will be launched in the UK, France and Germany first and will be accessible to play across Western Europe.

Aion is one of the world’s most popular and numerous awards winning MMOGs including a very loyal fan base in Europe. Songyee Yoon, Chief Strategic Officer from NCsoft® commented that “by introducing the free-to-play model, we hope more gamers in Europe will be able to experience the epic story of Aion” and added that “NCsoft welcomes the partnership with Gameforge with its long MMO experience in the free-to-play sector and its excellent knowledge of the European market.”

Aion is set in the world of Atreia, which has been continually expanded and constantly improved in cooperation with the community since 2009. Now adventurers not only have over 3,900 quests, but also countless new dungeons, new PvP arenas and lots more.
Another popular feature is the Miols: intelligent pets that have been recently added to the game. They provide, amongst other things, additional backpack slots whilst independently collecting all loot found in the game.
The new unique mentor system eases new players into the game, as higher level players are rewarded for helping beginners. Mentors receive medals which they can swap for equipment items, the ‘students on the other hand receive experience points as well as loot from shared adventures.
Update 2.7 added a host of new content to the atmospheric and visually stunning game. A new PvP arena challenges players seeking a fast-paced thrill in the Crucible Coliseum, and for those more PvE oriented there’s a new raid in Padmarashka’s Cave waiting to be conquered.

Gameforge’s Executive Director Alexander Rösner also welcomes the collaboration: “In Aion we have received a flagship title for our MMO sector which perfectly complements our current portfolio. We have worked hard with NCsoft® to develop a fair free-to-play model for new players as well as the current community. In the future we will of course continue to develop new content and extend it, working in close cooperation with the players.”
